CLASSICAL MEETS TRADITIONAL
WIND COLORS CD RELEASE AND RECITAL
FROM THE ACCLAIMED PERUVIAN TRUMPET PLAYER FREDY FUERTES
Miami (May 6th, 2013).- If you enjoy classical and traditional music, don’t miss this concert. At 8pm on Friday, May 10th, the Kuyayky Foundation presents Wind Colors, the album release and recital of the acclaimed Peruvian trumpet player, Fredy Fuertes.
Mr. Fuertes started playing the trumpet in traditional Andean bands when he was only eleven-years-old. Later, he studied classical music at the Conservatorio Nacional of Peru and at the Conservatorio Statale di Musica Guiseppe Verdi in Turin, Italy, where he received his Masters degree. He has played with multiple orchestras in Europe, Asia and Latin America, including the National Symphony Orchestra of Peru.
Wind Colors, his first album, includes concert pieces for trumpet, cornet, and piano from Leroy Anderson, Eugene Bozza, and Alexander Arutunian, among others. It also includes the world premiere of “Quepakunanchik”, commissioned specifically for this album. The concert piece was written by composter Rafael Junchaya for trumpet, piano, wakrapuku and pututo, the latter two of which are ancient Peruvian instruments made from a cattle horn and a conch shell.
“Honestly, I am very excited about this entire project, especially Quepakunanchik, because it is the first time in the history of trumpet repertoire that these ancient instruments are being included. And this makes the musical encounter of two great cultures possible.”
World renowned brasswind mouthpiece designer Terry Warburton, has said of Fuertes, “Fredy shows a mastery of his trumpet … with a beautiful, full sound!”
The album also features acclaimed Serbian concert pianist and teacher Tatjana Surev, whose musical training includes the Belgrade School of Music, the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, the Vienna Conservatory, and the University of Miami, where she received her doctoral degree.
The concert will take place at the Coral Gables Museum located at 285 Aragon Coral Gables, Florida 33134, at 8:00PM, and will include a cocktail reception.
